Description

The unique Hairy Stone Crab is in the same group of crabs as Hermit Crabs but has only three pairs of legs compared with the usual four pairs of true crabs. It has a grey brown body covered with hairs and has distinctive blue antennae. Body width to 25 mm.

Hairy Stones Crabs are found on the edge of the Barwon Estuary beneath basalt rocks where their body shape and muddy colour help to disguise them from potential predators. They are scavengers.
