Description

Zostera has long thin leaves with wiry stems arising from rhizomes below the sand. It forms extensive beds along the edges of the Bluff and in the estuary. Leaf up to 60 cm long

Seagrass beds are important nurseries for juvenile fish, crustaceans, and molluscs. They are also major feeding grounds for wading birds, including swans. It flowers throughout the warmer months.
