Description

Giant String Kelp has long, narrow stipes (stems) arising from numerous places on the massive branched holdfast. Large flotation bladders support this fast growing kelp. Up to 10 m long

In the past Giant String Kelp has formed extensive forests across the outer sandstone,  but has largely disappeared in recent years and is now a threatened ecological community.
