National Day of Climate Action – 17th November

Dear Friends

We’ve got a fight on our hands.
On Tuesday, the Abbott Government took their first steps towards making Australia the first nation in the world to scrap its carbon price and clean energy laws – tabling legislation to dump the carbon price, scrap billions of dollars of investment in renewable energy and axe the authority which sets our pollution reduction targets.
This is just the first in a disastrous series of planned attacks on the environment.
We knew it was coming. And people like you are already stepping up to say ‘not in my name’, with over 10,000 of you signing the petition to Tony Abbott.
Yesterday I delivered that petition to the Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt. He has committed to handing it to the Prime Minister, and in the coming weeks we’ll be making sure every new Coalition MP in Victoria knows about it.

Now, with Federal Parliament about to resume and the international community preparing to make a new agreement to raise ambition on climate change, it’s time to take things to the next level. Are you ready?
We’re teaming up with GetUp! for a massive climate rally as part of the National Day of Climate Action on Sunday 17 November in Melbourne and all around the country.

When: 11:00am Sunday, 17 November
Where: Treasury Place, Melbourne

The media coverage will reach fever pitch in coming weeks. We know that Tony Abbott will be trumpeting his claim of a “mandate to axe the tax” and trying to convince the public and the media that this is the way forward for Australia.

So now, more than ever, we need to come together to change the debate. We need to show that thousands upon thousands of Australians want strong action on climate change and investment in renewable energy.

If you’ve never been to a rally before, now is the time to ramp things up. If you have, we need you again. Because now more than ever, we need to stand up for everything we hold dear.

I hope to see you there,
Kelly
