Explore Bryozoans (Bryozoa)
Bryozoans are a phylum of simple aquatic invertebrate animals that nearly all live in colonies attached to rocks, larger animals, and plants like kelp, as well as surfaces like boat hulls and pier pylons.
Each individual zooid that makes up the colony have specialised feeding tentacles called lophophores which filter the water for plankton and particles of food.
Bryozoans are also known as ‘moss animals’ as they can look a lot like small plants.
