Peanut Worm

Scientific Name: Phascolosoma annulatum

Description: Peanut Worms or Sipunculids are a small group of roundworms that have a bulbous body like a peanut in shape, and a narrower section, called the ‘introvert’. This can be fully retracted into the trunk or extended many times the length of the worm when seeking prey, the mouth is at the tip of the introvert and is surrounded by a ring of short tentacles. The body is flexible and mobile and Peanut Worms are mostly found in rock crevices or other concealed locations including the between the tubes made by Galeolaria caespitosa.
