European Shore Crab
Scientific Name: Carcinus maenas
Description: This large crab is a marine invasive species that has been established in Victoria for over 100 years, after originating in Europe.
It is an aggressive predator and competes with native crabs for food and space and now is a pest species found in many parts of the world.
These crabs are mostly green in colour although can have orange patches in older animals.
It can be recognised by having five triangular spines on the front of the shell with four notches between them on each side of the eyes.
