Black-lipped Abalone
Scientific Name: Haliotus rubra
Description: Black-lipped Abalone are large grazing snails that feed on a variety of algae. Only one day after fertilization, abalone eggs hatch into larvae.
Juvenile abalone live in crevices in the rocks and feed on pink coralline algae, whilst larger abalone hide beneath the reef and capture pieces of broken kelp for food.
