Nudibranch
Scientific Name: Lamellaria australis
Description: Sea-slugs, like this tiny one found at the Bluff, are also called nudibranchs, a group of brightly coloured sea slugs that have their feathery gills on the outside of their body, unlike most molluscs where gills are hidden by a shell or the mantle – hence the name nudi – meaning naked, and branch – referring to their gills.
There are many species of nudibranchs and other sea slugs found along our coastline and they are a favourite for macro photographers.
