Shiny Swamp-mat

Scientific Name: Selliera radicans

Description: Shiny Swamp-mat is a common but unnoticed plant of salt marsh. This prostrate, creeping plant forms quite dense mats, it’s fast-growing underground stems or rhizomes useful in stabilising the soft sediments of water-logged depression where it is found. The shiny, bright green leaves are succulent and spoon shaped. The pale white fan shaped flowers have a mauve tinge. Shiny Swamp-mat plays an important role in the life of aquatic insects.
