Eastern Shovelnose Stingaree

Scientific Name: Trygonoptera imitata

Description: A large plain-coloured coastal stingaree with a relatively deep-body, a smooth subcircular disc, two venomous spines, a long fin on the tail and no dorsal fin.

These stingarees are often seen over the shallow reefs and sand on the east side of the Bluff, at the mouth of the Barwon River.

They mainly feed on invertebrates found in the sand which are crushed by flattened pavement like teeth.
