New Holland Honeyeater
Scientific Name: Phylidonyris novaehollandiae
Description: The New Holland Honeyeater is an active, chirpy little bird and is very friendly. The head is mainly black, with a small white cheek-patch and a white eyebrow. The body is black and white except for a bright yellow patch on the wing and in the tail margins. The yellow flash on their wings make them easy to see.
Honeyeaters busily dart from flower to flower in search of nectar. At times, groups of six or more birds gather for a “corroboree” of singing and chasing. They feed on nectar, insects, and honeydew.
