Horseshoe Leatherjacket

Scientific Name: Meuschenia hippocrepis 

Description: Horseshoe Leatherjackets are a colourful fish with a distinctive horseshoe pattern on their sides and with two pairs of curved spines on each side in front of the tail.

They are often seen amongst kelp and other macroalgae in the Marine Sanctuary occasionally forming large schools on outer reefs.

Horseshoe Leatherjackets are carnivores and feed on a wide range of invertebrates occasionally including jellyfish.
