Royal Spoonbill
Scientific Name: Platalea regia
Description: The Royal Spoonbill is a large white waterbird with a black, spoon-shaped bill, facial skin, legs and feet and a distinctive yellow patch above the eye. During the breeding season males develop a crest which can be up to 20 cm long. They feed on invertebrates obtained by swishing the sensitive beaks through shallow water and seagrass.
