Coast Tussock-grass

Scientific Name: Poa poiformis var. poiformis

Description: This is a densely tufted tussock with distinctive blue/green leaves and slightly longer flowering stems. Seed heads are produced in the December – January period. The dense, perennial nature of Coast Tussock-grass makes it important for dune stabilisation as well as shelter and food for grazing animals. The plant fibres are a traditional resource for the Wadawurrung used to make string.

Foliage: Loosely in-rolled, soft, lightly to densely hairy leaves
Flower: Dense flower heads to 30cm long, pale green to straw coloured spike-lets almost to the base of the branches
