Where to find
Open ocean, attached to floating debris, such as wood
Goose Barnacles have wide, white plates at the end of a smooth, dark stalk. The filtering cirri (threads) are often visible in beach washed specimens emerging from the white plates.  These are a widely distributed species and can grow up to 7 cm long.

Attached to objects drifting at sea, Goose Barnacles filter plankton from the surrounding waters. They are usually found attached to washed up flotsam and jetsam on the beach, where they will only survive for a short time.
