Where to find
Rocky reef, high intertidal rocky shore in crevices, to a depth of 1 m
Waratah Anemones often appear as red blobs on rocks at low tide, making them one of the most conspicuous anemones on the intertidal reef. Their beauty is only revealed as the bright red tentacles unfurl as the incoming tide covers them. Column up to 4 cm

Waratah Anemones defend their territory by attacking intruders with repeated strikes of tentacles filled with nematocysts (stinging cells). These nematocysts also paralyse their prey.
