Smooth Toadfish
Scientific Name: Tetractenos glaber
Description: Found only in south-eastern Australia, the Smooth Toadfish is a pale yellowish to green coloured pufferfish. Its body is covered in dark irregular spots and blotches overlain with darker bands, it has a white belly and large eyes with an orange ring around them.
These fish are quite inquisitive and great to watch underwater in the Marine Sanctuary or estuary as they feed on molluscs, crustaceans and polychaete worms.
While very poisonous to humans and should never be eaten Toadfish play an important role in local food chains and can be eaten by some birds including Pelicans.
