Common Ringtail Possum
Scientific Name: Pseudocheirus peregrinus
Wadawurrung Name: barnong
Description: This marsupial possum can be found across the entire eastern part of Australia where it lives in dense tree canopies. A small possum about half the size of a cat, the Ringtail has round ears, is grey-brown to red-brown in colour with a white to cream underbelly. It has a white-tipped curling tail that it uses for balance and for building a nest of twigs and leaves, called a ‘drey’. Their nests may be seen in the canopy of dense trees of moonahs and tea-trees. They rarely enter the rooves of houses.
