Pacific Oyster
Scientific Name: Crassostrea gigas
Description: The Pacific Oyster is an invasive species that has been sighted in the Barwon estuary. It is a large oyster with a strong shell with folded sharp edges and is capable of rapidly spreading and colonising reefs, structures, and mudflats, creating a hazard for people and local species.
If seen, Pacific Oysters should be immediately reported to Parks Victoria or to marine.pests@agriculture.vic.gov.au.
